We loved hosting our full day toddler families for an inclusive celebration of all caregivers last week. The children were invited to demonstrate a favorite classroom work—flower arranging—for their parents, grandparents and siblings. We love seeing the looks of pride and joy on the faces of the children and their parents!

♻️ Our Primary class is taking time this summer to make beautiful works of art and practical items using recycled materials donated by their families. Creating upcycled works of art is a fun and creative way for young children to participate in sustainable practices and begin cultivating a sense of environmental responsibility.

From cosmic coasters made from mom and dad’s old CDs 🪐💿 to colorful butterflies 🦋 made out of paper rolls, the children are putting their fine motor skills and creativity to use making objects that connect with the Montessori cultural curriculum 🌏

Last Friday we celebrated our kindergarten graduates and the toddlers moving up into Primary next year at Christ Church on Capitol Hill! It was a beautiful ceremony filled with so much love, happy tears and song. Congratulations to the ToTH Montessori Class of 2023 🎓👏🏼🎉

After nine months of practice our toddlers have mastered so many practical life skills. Confidence and independence combined with coordination and refined motor skills result in a joyful process of nourishment and community.

Looking for ways to bring some of this Montessori magic to your own dining table? Start with accessibility and freedom: Can your toddler climb into and out of their own dining chair? Do they have child sized utensils? Are they given the opportunity to serve themselves? Once we invite children to be active participants in the home and give them the tools they need to be independent, they will show us just how capable they are!

Today our toddlers were excited to have one of TOT

Today our toddlers were excited to have one of TOTH’S kindergarteners join them for circle time as they wrapped up their unit about bones and teeth. This special guest has lost five of her baby teeth this school year(!) and currently has another loose tooth. She came to talk to the toddlers about her experience of losing her baby teeth and getting new permanent teeth. She talked about having a loose tooth, foods that she didn’t eat when her tooth was loose, how she took care of her mouth when the tooth came out and where she put the tooth. 🦷 🪥

In a child-led Montessori environment so much of the teaching comes directly from the children themselves and we love to give our kindergarten leaders opportunities to share their wisdom!
